The Sombrero Galaxy is a spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Virgo, close to the border with Corvus. What makes it interesting is that is is seen virtually edge-on from Earth and a dark dust lane can be seen running across the galaxy. It is around 100,000 ly across and is approximately 50 million ly away, receding from us at a rate of 1000 km/s. At magnitude 8.00, the Sombrero Galaxy should be seen in all telescopes on a dark night. Find The Sombrero Galaxy |
