Vega is one of the stars which make up the Summer Triangle - the others being Deneb in Cygnus and Altair in Aquila. It was in prehistoric times the pole star. Precession has transferred that honour to Polaris but Vega will regain the position in a few thousand year's time. The name is derived from the Arabic phrase for Eagle but many mythological stories surround it from Greek, Arabic and Chinese history. |
