Altair is the brightest member of the group of stars which form Aquila, the Eagle. Its name is derived from the Arabic word which describes the whole constellation. Although not particularly bright by cosmic standards, Altair seems bright to us as it is relatively close, at 17 light years. It forms one corner of the Summer Triangle, along with Deneb in Cygnus and Vega in Lyra.

In Frontier, Altair is a very important Federal system with over 1 billion citizens. The major industry here is tourism, and all pursuits are catered for on Biggs Colony.
